Youth sports and away games: information that can move with the player

A US-focused guide for parents, players and coaches using MIPACE around practices, tournaments and away games.

MIPACE Knowledge Hub

Youth sport often involves practices, tournaments and away games where a parent may not be standing next to the player when something happens.

Why accessible information can matter here

Coaches still follow their organisation’s emergency action plans and safeguarding rules. MIPACE can add a person-controlled information route without turning the coach into the owner of the profile. A person may be away from the parent, carer, colleague or familiar adult who would normally explain what helps. MIPACE provides a route to information the profile owner or parent has deliberately chosen to make available.

What you might choose to make available

Useful choices may include emergency contacts, allergies, communication preferences, relevant assistance information and concise medical context selected by the player or parent.

The aim is not to publish everything. A short profile containing the details that could change how somebody communicates, assists or contacts the right person can be more useful than a long record.

Where MIPACE can fit

A suitable MIPACE device can travel with the person on a bag, card, keyring, lanyard or another appropriate item. Multiple devices can connect to the same current profile, so information can be updated centrally rather than reprinted on every item.

For children and families

A parent or guardian can manage a child profile and decide what is public. The public child view uses the child’s first name only and its temporary viewing session expires after 15 minutes. MIPACE can sit alongside the school, transport provider, camp, club or family’s normal safeguarding and emergency arrangements; it does not replace them.

When travelling or crossing borders

Different countries use different terminology and systems. Keep the profile factual and easy to understand, and review it before travel. MIPACE can help make selected information reachable, but it does not guarantee that a device will be noticed, tapped or acted upon.

Set up for the situation, not the technology

Start with the question: if this person could not explain for themselves, what would another person genuinely need to know to communicate, assist them or contact the right person? Build the public profile around that answer.

Please note: MIPACE supports access to selected information. It does not replace emergency services, medical advice, prescribed medical-alert equipment, school or workplace procedures, safeguarding, supervision or local legal requirements.
